An inspiration

john saladino

It is funny how inspiration works in twisty little ways instead of always in a direct line.  I have been in love with this room from John Saladino’s interpretation of a NY apartment based on the movie Girl with a Pearl Earring.  For a peek, go here.

Catherine's dining room[1] (2)

Ever since I first saw the Astrid Mirror from Oly mirror that Christina from Greige used on her design for my dining room (see here), I have become enamored by it and have vowed to have at least one sunburst mirror in my house.  I must be the last person on Earth to get one!

BEFORE

So there is this little corner of my house with an empty spot right above the two turtle prints.  There was a little convex ornament that I had planned would go there.  As luck would have it, as I was about to hang it the little rascal jumped out of my hands and laid in halves on the tile floor below.  Needless to say, this little corner has been ‘hanging’ since last Fall.

As luck would have it, today I found this little convex mirror on Etsy that should fit in very nicely.  And y’all, it cost me all of $10 bucks plus shipping.  I think it will look like a million bucks!  I might even rub some black stain on it.  Will see after it gets here.

AFTER  - artistic interpretation
Do you guys find that inspiration is not as straight forward as some people would think, but rather an extension of what is going on in your life?  It is a hodgepodge of ideas that seem to just fall into place, fit and mold to your current need.

Too funny Catherine! I've been trying to work a sunburst mirror in somewhere for a year! It may be on hold (there are some changes coming), but I'm pretty determined! I love that little one and think it's perfect for you!

I agree, inspiration comes in all shape and form, and how you perceive them is relative to your needs at that time. glad you have recovered from the grand soiree last week, it was a lot of fun. your mirror will be a great addition for that space and love how you positioned those pillows at the center. hope you have a great week! verbena cottage

I love, love John Saladino's design. Actually, I would like to be on his plaster team, lol. Funny, check out my post (http://allthingspaintandplasters.blogspot.com/2010/03/what-is-scratch-coat-plaster-anyway.html)- we chose different photos from the same apartment.

When I seek inspiration, it seems to elude me. I do better paying attention every day as "inspiration" comes from the most unexpected places. That's why I have Post-its and a notebook in my purse- you just never know!

The mirror will look great! I love sunburst mirrors -- I have a HUGE silver one from RH over my mantle, in fact. And yes, I think inspiration comes in many forms -- and often indirect ones at that! For me though, inspiration tends to hit like lightning. Bam! Eureka! I can't explain it but it just comes upon me, often at night.

I love the picture of your inspiration room, I still need to see that movie, I have heard great things about it. I know my inspiration strikes at different times and by so many different things. I am all over the place sometimes. As long as I love it, I have a place for it!

I just HAD to have a sunburst mirror, not b/c it was the buzz item, but b/c I just loved it. That's how I buy anything. If you LOVE it, you'll find a place for it. I never go buy product to fill a space, that's when it starts to look contrived. If you like something, it's a true reflection of YOU and that's what always works in the end. People can sense that, and they can see it when they enter your home. Authenticity is ALWAYS in style :)

Gorgeous!! You always know how to make things work. I love how you have planned this.. I should take photos of my space and crop in the images too, lol.

Have a fantastic week, I will be MIA over the next few days :)

Oh, another lovely reason to love Etsy. Great find.
And I think inspiration comes from real life...anywhere and everywhere.

Inspiration can come from just about any where and out of the blue it is recognizing it and then doing something with it even if you make a mistake. It can always be changed and made better. Interior design and landscape design is a living moving flowing art form ever changing ever evolving.

Lovely post -- inspirational.

I think a sunburst mirror makes the prefect addition. It is pretty versatile and looks great with many types of decor.

It is going to look great and the price cannot be beat! I love etsy! I have my eye on a bone sunburst mirror Suzanne Kasler uses in her home and am eagerly awaiting her new collections hoping a reproduction surfaces. I found an identical one on 1st dibs but it is more than I want to spend!

I love this post! I'm so with you on this. Inspiration, for me, a pick some pieces, words, anything and my own 'thing' arises... Hmm, this sentence is probably anything except good English.
I adore your words though today!

Wishing you a happy, happy Wednesday. Keep your eyes open for I*N*S*P*I*R*A*T*I*O*N
